[...] Who is to Judge? I have this problem, you see, when I need to make a decision, I just look at the facts and decide something, without giving much thought to what’s not said or included. While I was growing up, my inability to factor in the facts are not included, or the other factors I don’t examine has always caused me problems and led to ineffective decision making. My Ammamma use to always say to me, “velluthathu ellam paal illai,” which roughly means everything you see that is white is not milk. [...]

Comment on Critical Theory and Reconciliation by Sharranya

Another comment in addition to the one I made earlier, in response to both Sutharsan and Aanandh. The Sri Lankan government has a track record of never dealing with any problems properly with proper justice of many things in addition to our problem. An example would be abused workers from Sri Lanka that have been exploited in countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other countries. The government has implemented laws against violence, sexual assault, and forced recruitment of soldiers but on record with the United Nations and other NGOs it has always failed each time to properly conduct investigations and sentences for perpetrators of trafficking, abuse, and recruitment. It claims to be making significant improvements in its system but there haven’t been any reports with changes implemented on record. Both tamils and sinhalese suffer from the lack of responsibility from the government. During the Haiti earthquake crisis, the Sri Lankan army was accused of sexual misconduct involving minors in Haiti and there were over 100 cases of that during their peacekeeping mission. The investigation carried out by the United Nations on that concluded with no update from Sri Lanka on sentencing perpetrators of the misconduct by the army men, so that went unaccounted for. The sex trafficking industry in Sri Lanka is growing at an immensely fast speed, as the laws against sex trafficking are not enforced properly by the government at all, as perpetrators like pimps and brothel owners are let off the hook without any charges, sentences or even a fine. Many women from other countries are smuggled on a daily basis to Sri Lanka from places like Thailand, Russia and Hong Kong with the government's lack of responsibility to stop illegal smuggling. Workers that go abroad are not taken into account by the government for ensuring their safety when they live in another country and often end up working in brothels of that country or abused by their employers. The whole system in Sri Lanka is disgustingly corrupt with no matter what party is in power. (I agree with you Sutharsan, on that) Regionalism is a huge factor in inequality on the island and as well as nepotism. (All the ministers are either related to each other or are friends as kids and appoint them based on favouritism rather than qualifications) Sri Lanka's relationships with other countries such as China prove to be fully malevolent, with Sri Lanka letting it establish companies and certain constructions and China supplying it with arms that were obviously used for the genocide of 2009, in addition with its "war on terrorism". It makes me mad that it promotes itself through mainly its tourism industry and completely hides the fact that it sucks big time on taking care of its people and country in general. All people think about when it comes to that country before was how beautiful its beaches are, its tropical, so nice and etc., but the truth is coming out slowly of how it really treats its citizens and its corruptness. I would even mock the flag, which denotes racial percentages on its green and orange colours with the biggest red colour belonging to the sinhalese. And Aanandh, with its history of undemocratic behaviour, I wouldn't be surprised that it did that, but any smart country to avoid being charged with war crimes and uphold responsibility, would put its citizens first instead of blindly and ragingly kill anything in its path. Of course there are other countries out there that have done so, but Sri Lanka is worst thus far with violating civilian rights, the United States looks angelic compared to what Sri Lanka has done.

I came across an interesting perspective from a sinhalese-canadian person who was obviously strongly against an independent state being created within the country. Rudely addressed, (as most comments by sinhalese people are for unfortunate reasons) he briefly put economic development as a way out instead of a state "to show how foolish tamils are". He talked about building up the east and north areas of Sri Lanka, building highways, bridges and an international airport that would rival one of the main airports of the country and making one of the seaports in the east a main trade route so more trade and prosperity would come to the area. As well increase education and job opportunities within that region so people would be able to have better living conditions and wealth. Basically develop the entire area, infrastructure, replace old crumbling buildings with strong sturdy structures and etc. Lastly though he demanded that there should be an influx of sinhalese people to live in the area and to build places of worship for them and as well as stores, and facilities to ensure equality. "Push until it gives," was his motto. What do you think is wrong with this proposal? Or what isn't wrong (right)? After all these years, with this proposal, why is there still a government in that country who berates its minority citizens and upholds chauvinistic views about the dominant culture, without implementing equal regional development. As well, why are there still tamil people protesting and urging international governments to create a state? Am I missing something about why this was never done or considered within the country?
